I have con­flicted feelings towards this book. On the one hand, just the title itself I find almost blasphe­mous to a great man. To tri­via­lize such a legend with a vam­pire tale is somet­hing I find bor­der­line insul­ting, and read­ing it did some­ti­mes give me the feeling of being a cross­o­ver fan­fic­tion (and I really don’t like cross­o­ver fan­fic­tions). I don’t get what it is the aut­hor aims for with this book, what he wants to get across.

On the other hand, the book was fai­rly well writ­ten, and at times both funny, gro­tes­que and had a very inter­e­s­ting nar­ra­tive. I wan­ted to know what would hap­pen in the next chap­ter. So story-wise, it was a good read. (Yet I am stil baffled by the con­trast of the easy and almost super­fi­cial lan­guage, com­bined with gru­some details of hor­ror). The con­cept itself is also stran­gely fasci­na­ting, even though I don’t really like it.

So I’m not really sure what to think of this book, I can’t fit it into any of the cat­go­ries I’m fami­liar with. Which is both annoy­ing and intri­gu­ing. I can’t say that I would recom­mend it, but not sure if I would dis­suade some­one from read­ing it eit­her.
